Rent-to-own News - FRDA coordinates TV donation to Ronald McDonald House in Tampa

October 26, 2010

On October 14, representatives from Aaron’s Southeastern Operations team and Florida Rental Dealers Association delivered 11 42 inch LCD TVs to a Ronald McDonald House in Tampa, FL.

“Back in September, the Ronald McDonald House asked me for pricing on TVs that they needed for an upcoming promotion,” said Sharon Tomaszewski, FRDA’s Executive Director. “I sent an email out to our Board of Directors to see what pricing they could provide and Joe Fedorchak, Vice President of Southeastern Operations for Aaron’s, responded almost immediately that Aaron’s may be able to donate the TVs. And sure enough, a few days later, he had 11 42in TVs set aside for this. It was so awesome – and just a great way to show what good can happen through working together within a state association. Thank you so much to everyone at Aaron’s who made this happen.”

The donation of the TVs not only will provide extra fundraising incentives during the promotion – which means more money for the charity, but will also allow for some much needed improvements to the Ronald McDonald Houses in Tampa.

“The Ronald McDonald House is about keeping families together when they need each other the most," said Janice Davis, Executive Director and CEO of Ronald McDonald Charities of Tampa Bay. "The stress and emotional toll on a family from having a child in the hospital is enormous. A family close by is part of the healing process. A Ronald McDonald House within walking distance to a child’s bedside allows parents to hold their hands, wipe their tears and kiss them goodnight. This generous donation from Aaron’s will play a huge role in raising the money needed to do just that - keep our doors open to insure that families in Tampa Bay will always have a safe, comfortable and supportive “home-away-from-home. Our partnership with Florida Rental Dealers Association continues to amaze me and the people I have met within the group really do care about these children and families that we are trying to help out."

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
