Rent-to-own News - Waterbury ColorTyme outfits youth safe home

January 12, 2011

Steve Dwyer

Steve Dwyer and his team at the ColorTyme in Waterbury, Conn. have been devoted advocates of the Waterbury Youth Services System (WYSS) since 2008. Kicking off another year of support, Dwyer and his staff recently donated lobby furniture for the organization’s new office building and provided several dressers and nightstands for kids at the Safe Home.

WYSS is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the overall well-being of children, youth and families. Its Safe Home provides short-term housing for abused and/or neglected children.

“It has always been a priority for us to do whatever we can to make life easier for people in our community. We feel it’s important to respond to the needs of our neighbors both inside and outside of the store,” Dwyer said. “The Waterbury Youth Services System has programs in place that really make a difference. There’s no doubt we’ll continue to support their mission.”

In addition to the donations, the ColorTyme team helped fulfill Christmas wishes for two children through the 25th annual Santa’s Toy Fund. Kelly Cronin, the organization’s executive director, expressed gratitude on behalf of WYSS in a letter sent to Dwyer.

“Your kindness and generosity is very much appreciated,” wrote Cronin. “These gifts send a wonderful message that although our neighbors may be less fortunate than we are, they are no less valued by caring individuals like you.”

Through the help of city, state and federal grants as well as the generosity of individual donors like Dwyer, the WYSS helps 4,000 individuals annually through a broad spectrum of assistance. Dwyer plans to make further donations throughout the year.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
