Rent-to-own News - Buddy's grows to 110 stores, expands Texas market

July 14, 2011

Buddy’s Home Furnishings this week acquired Quality Lease Purchase of Texas in a move that now gives Buddy's signage in Round Rock, Waco, and Temple. Plans also include opening stores in the surrounding areas.

Buddy’s Home Furnishing’s corporate and franchise brand operates the fourth most rental purchase locations in the country behind Rent-A-Center, Aarons, and Colortyme. Buddy’s has projected growth of 46 additional stores over the next 12 months.

“We are excited about the growth in the rental purchase Industry” said Buddy's Corporate President Joe Gazzo. “We have a solid group of owner-operators in East and West Texas, so to continue expansion in Central Texas makes sense for Buddy’s.”

Eight Six Three RTO LLC will franchise the new locations.

“We are pleased to join up with a great franchisor like Buddy’s. We love this growing industry and  the Texas market," said Eight Six Three Owner Patrick Greene. "We look forward to providing the greater Austin/San Antonio area with quality home furnishings and customer service. We are very excited to work with our veteran operator Eric Adame. He is an excellent person with tremendous growth capabilities.”

Today, Buddy's Home Furnishings has 110 company, franchisee and licensee locations in multiple states, including Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, North Carolina, Tennessee and Nebraska. Future stores being targeted are in Texas, Arkansas, South Carolina, Kentucky, & Missouri.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
