Rent-to-own News - PrimeTime! Buying Show launches in Dallas

August 22, 2011

James MacAlpine reviews rent to own industry trends at the RentDirect meeting Monday.

Nationwide Marketing Group -- parent company to RentDirect Nationwide -- on Monday launched what organizers are calling the organization's most highly attended buying show in it's 40 year history.

More than 1000 vendor and member companies are present for the event which runs through Aug. 24. Rental dealers kicked off the day with the RentDirect membership meeting led by James MacAlpine, VP of NMG's Rental Division & Business Development, who recapped the year's top RTO business and news events and made future projections on the industry's growth.

APRO Executive Director Bill Keese addressed the more than 100 attending rental dealers regarding the industry's recent showing in a congressional hearing that Keese said was highly successful.

"If we could have scripted the meeting ourselves, we couldn't have written it that well," Keese said, noting the testimony of San Antonio Premier Dealer Roy Soto and APRO's Customer of the Year Vivian Saunders was particularly valuable in the hearing.

A "Hot Show" auction followed before dealers headed to the show floor.

by Neil Ferguson

Here’s the lowdown on APRO’s 2012 Convention and Trade Show, July 24-26 in Memphis. The RTO industry’s big event will offer many valuable experiences, including insights on how to turn your stores into “experiences”–the good kind for consumers

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
