Rent-to-own News - TRIB preps for MOM record buster
The TRIB Group, the rent to own industry's only member-owned and member run rent to own buying group, is scrambling to accommodate unexpectedly large numbers of RTO pros to the group's "Meeting of the Minds" event -- a pow wow of RTO pros who provide an unvarnished view of the day to day realities of the rental channel that begins today at Caesars Palace.
The signature event runs concurrently, for the second year in a row, with strategic partner BrandSource and that group's biannual buying show. BrandSource is one of the country's largest buying groups for independent retailers whose members tap more than 11 billion in annual sales.
"People are anxious and eager to learn from their peers at 'Meeting of the Minds' and ready to place orders for the rest of the year at the buy fair," said TRIB Group Executive Director Dennis Shields. "Of course our Hot Show gets pretty wild, that's where they can really find deals that are offered nowhere else."
Close to 250 dealers representing 84 rental companies are checking in for the MOM/Buy Fair -- the most attendance ever for the event.
A few notable room changes as of Aug. 26:
Monday Aug. 29 8 - 4:45 p.m. Meeting of the Minds, Session 1 -- PALACE 3
Noon - 1 p.m. TRIB Group MEMBER Lunch -- PALACE BALLROOM 3/ PRE-FUNCTION AREA
Tuesday, Aug 31 9:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Meeting of the Minds, Session 2 -- PALACE 3
The event is co-located with mega-retail buying group BrandSource's biannual buying show and Conference.
Things begin to heat up with the TRIB Hot Show where the annual paddle waving auction frenzy of everything to flatscreens, notebooks, washers and dryers and only the best name brand furniture.
See photo gallery of TRIB Group's last Hotshow and convention here. Last minute registration can be completed at www.brandsourceconvention.com. All vendor representatives attending the show must also register for name badges.

A New Rent-to-Own Experience by Neil Ferguson Here’s the lowdown on APRO’s 2012 Convention and Trade Show, July 24-26 in Memphis. The RTO industry’s big event will offer many valuable experiences, including insights on how to turn your stores into “experiences”–the good kind for consumers
Who Is Your Competition? by Bill Keese In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.
A Review of Online Customer Complaints by Ed Winn III While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
Rent-to-Own Families, Part VIII by Kristen Card Our series of family-run rent-to-own businesses continues with profiles of the Homeiers in Kansas and two Texas-based sets of kindred colleagues, the Spangles and the Weisblatts.
