Rent-to-own News - Forker opens fourth Premier

September 16, 2011

Premier's Jim Forker

After 25 years in the Rent to Own industry working for someone else, Jim Forker has now opened his 4th Premier Rental Purchase location and is now making money for himself.

Jim opened his newest location over the busy Labor Day weekend with an aggressive marketing campaign.  Promoting the Grand Opening  included great food, beverages and special in-store promotions.  He owns three locations in Michigan and his newest store is in Indiana.

Jim has had an extensive, successful, career in the Rent to Own industry. That’s the reason he decided to open his first Premier Rental-Purchase location in September 2005. “The opening went smooth and the sales were good so I teamed up with Matt Chamberlain to open the 2nd store less than two years later,” said Forker.  “I’ve always had dreams of being a multi-store owner and do not plan to stop with my 4th store.”

Forker converted his first Premier Rental-Purchase location, in Benton Harbor, to a Premier Home Furnishings store in January 2011.  Premier Home Furnishings, a division of The Premier Companies, offers the customers the choice of purchasing their home furnishing needs through their rental purchase plan or through their retail sales program.

Jim’s goal is to own and operate 6 – 8 additional Premier locations.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
