Rent-to-own News - Rent One's Delivery Tech Rodeo competition kicks off this month

Rent One is once again calling out delivery technicians company-wide to participate in the company's second annual 'Delivery Tech Rodeo'.

Regional competition begins Oct. 18  with regions 1, 2 and 4 and continues Oct. 25 with regions 5 and 6, Oct. 26 with region 3 and 7 and rounds out without the grand finals Nov. 8.

Last year, Jacob Palmer and Wade Cloninger of Trumann, Arkansas store #48 took home the top prize in Rent One's intra-company competition, out-performing some 150 delivery technicians from 50 other stores across five states.

Rent One President Trent Agin said the new tradition is a winning opportunity to bring together employees who share the same responsibilities to share information and experience and test their skill in a competitive but friendly environment.

"This is something our employees have been asking about since we wrapped it up last year," said Rent One President Trent Agin. "The truth is, it's a fun way to give our delivery techs feedback in a non-sterile environment. And they get the opportunity to show-off a little bit in front of their co-workers."

Agin said Rent One's extensive on-line training programs are still no match for face to face interaction between co-workers.

"These guys (delivery technicians) are the difference between expectation and reality," Agin said. "These are the last people the customer sees and its one thing to set high expectations for a customer when you make the sale, but the reality is when we show up and how we conduct ourselves whether it is for a pick up or delivery is going to leave a lasting impression. We want to exceed our customers' expectations."

The team-building competition consists of 12 competition categories dryer installation, installing anti-tip brackets, electronics hook-ups, dollying and lifting techniques, vehicle backing. Participating delivery techs will also receive a rundown on the events and scoring criteria prior to each competition.

The winners received trophies and "Bravo Bucks" which allow them to purchase merchandise in Rent One stores.

Rent One owner Larry Carrico sees the delivery tech rodeo as part of a potential industry-wide competition/training opportunity rent to own companies can use to further enhance customer service within the industry.

"In our recent potential customer focus groups, we didn't hear anyone complain about service issues. This is one way we are going to stay on top of that," Carrico said. "This is kind of the best place to begin when you're talking about improving the image of rent to own and it could be cool to get companies to compete across the country. How else will we know who is truly the best?"

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
