"These guys (delivery technicians) are the difference between expectation and reality," Rent One President Trent Agin said. "These are the last people the customer sees and it's one thing to set high expectations for a customer when you make the sale, but the reality is when we show up and how we conduct ourselves whether it is for a pick up or delivery is going to leave a lasting impression."

The team-building competition consists of 12 competition categories dryer installation, installing anti-tip brackets, electronics hook-ups, dollying and lifting techniques, vehicle backing. Participating delivery techs will also receive a rundown on the events and scoring criteria prior to each competition.

Rent One owner Larry Carrico said the delivery tech rodeo and similar company competitions is something he would like to see adopted industry-wide.

"In our recent potential customer focus groups, we didn't hear anyone complain about service issues," he said. "This is one way we are going to stay on top of that."

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
