Rent-to-own News - Rent-A-Center donates $20,000 to New Orleans food bank

October 20, 2011

Rent-A-Center today donated $20,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana. The food bank is one of eleven across the nation sharing in $250,000 worth of Rent-A-Center funding for hunger relief this year.

The donation is in addition to the recent hunger-relief initiative staged across Rent-A-Center's 3000-plus stores. Dubbed "Soup to Nuts," this campaign took place in September in support of Hunger Action Month.

It saw Rent-A-Center stores serve as collection points for cans of soup, jars of peanut butter and other canned goods. The donated food products were delivered to hunger-relief partners such as senior centers, homeless shelters, daycare centers and churches.

"One in eight people in our community struggles with hunger," says Natalie Jayroe, president and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank. "Second Harvest relies on partners to fight hunger each and every day. Donations of time, food and funds from our community partners, such as Rent-A-Center, help Second Harvest to feed hope in the lives of those struggling with hunger."

"In challenging economic times, it is especially gratifying to support the communities we serve," said Mitch Fadel, president and COO of Rent-A-Center and a board member of the North Texas Food Bank.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
