Rent-to-own News - Central Rent to Own donates $33,000 in-kind to 2009 Special Olympics

September 5, 2008

Central Rent to Own employees present Special Olympics athletes and organizers with a $33,000 check representing the company's recent donation to the Special Olympics World Games.

The 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Boise, Idaho will be the largest event of its kind ever held in the state.

And Central Rent to Own wants to be part of it.

The event, set for February 7-13, will be the largest multi-sport event ever held in the state of Idaho with thousands of volunteers, coaches, family members and supporters joining the expected 3,000 athletes from over 85 nations for the competition.

The Boise, Idaho based Central Rent to Own announced today it will furnish five apartments to house some of these visitors in the months leading up to the games and through the duration of the international event -- a donation valued at $33,000.

The donation was spearheaded by Kyle Borger, manager of Central’s Corporate Rentals division. The Corporate Rental division provides appliances, electronics, furniture, and housewares for businesses and individuals who are in the area for an extended work assignment.

"By providing our services, the Special Olympics can take that money and direct it toward other areas.” Borger said. "We have always looked at our corporate rental division as a service for helping the area grow by providing the needed resources for expanding companies and agencies. Central saw the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games as being positive for the local economy and wanted to provide our services to show our support."

Surpassing the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Games in athlete numbers and participating nations, the World Winter Games will be the largest such event ever held in Idaho. Competition will take place in seven winter sports – Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing, Figure Skating, Floor Hockey, Snowboarding, Snowshoeing and Speed Skating. Competition and other activities will take place in communities and venues throughout Idaho including but not limited to Boise, Sun Valley and McCall.

Central Rent to Own is a 31 year-old rent-to-own company with six stores located in Ontario, Oregon, Caldwell, Nampa, Boise, and Twin Falls Idaho. The company rents appliances, electronics, and furniture and has a long tradition of working with local charities.

Additionally, Central Rent to Own encourages its customers and employees to donate individually to the games with a company goal of $10,000. Information on donating will be available at all Central Rent to Own stores.
