Rent-to-own News - NEW VIDEO: Kelly and Kinnear on APRO
September 4, 2008
On August 13, APRO members elected two new faces to the association's board of directors.
Members filled eight seats on the board at the APRO 2008 Convention and Buying Show in St. Louis last month, re-electing six incumbents and electing two new members, Bill Kelly and Scott Kinnear.
Kelly is COO at New Avenues Lease Ownership, a nine-store chain based in Alpharetta, Georgia, where he has worked since 2005.
A 19-year-member of the rent-to-own industry, Kelly cut his teeth with Alrenco, where he worked as the company's vice president of operations from 1989 to 1998 and was inspired by APRO co-founder Bud Holladay, long-time APRO member Mike Walts and former APRO President Ted Wilson.
In this exclusive APRO Video, Kelly explains how his interest in serving on APRO board grew out of his experience with the Indiana Rental-Purchase Dealers Association where he served as president from 1996 to 1997.
"I thought I could make a difference on a federal level," Kelly said.

Scott Kinnear is a Premier franchisee with one store located in Dayton, Ohio.
Kinnear started his rent-to-own career as an account manager for Rainbow Rentals in 1993. An avid student of the industry, Kinnear learned everything he could about the rent-to-own business and was soon promoted to store manager in Dayton and Columbus, Ohio where he served until 2004.
He opened his Premier Rental Purchase franchise that year and serves on Premier's Marketing Committee.
In this exclusive video, Kinnear describes some of the reasons he decided to run for the APRO Board, including focusing on the importance active state associations and building relationships at the grassroots level.
An active member of the Ohio Rental Dealers Association, Kinnear hopes to further his work with state associations across the country.
"A lot of what we do in the legislative arena can start in the state houses, in the county seats where sometimes these politicians start out," Kinnear said.
