Rent-to-own News - Radio "hall-of-famer" to host 2008 APRO Awards Banquet

July 22, 2008

“Make the connection” is not just a catchphrase with Guy Phillips, it’s his philosophy.

That makes Phillips the perfect choice for master of ceremonies at the 2008 APRO Awards Banquet, The ESPYs, in St. Louis August 13.

Whether through his razor-sharp morning radio-show wit as chairman of the Phillips & Company Morning Show, a timely on-air interview, or in-person as an emcee of a charity event, Phillips delivers like few St. Louis personalities can.

His timing has remained the cornerstone of his drawing power as the most in-demand toastmaster in St. Louis.

Inducted into the St. Louis Radio Hall of Fame in 2005, Phillips has spent time in parts of four decades waking up and entertaining generations of "St. Louisans".

His personal commitment to charitable endeavors is unhesitating. In his almost thirty years at Y98FM he has  helped raise millions of dollars for organizations that benefit his listeners and their families, especially children.

His efforts did not go unnoticed when, by proclamation of the Mayor, he was named “Mr. St. Louis.”

Phillips' radio persona is shaped by the events in and around his life with his own family.

He is father to three self-described “original” children (Leigh, Dana, Geoff) and three “extra crispy”  stepchildren (Kevin, Sammi, Jack). Along with wife, Kim, his family makes everyday an adventure and provides Phillips with plenty of material.

Phillips brings the complex problems of home life, as well as his quirky observations, onto his show daily. Opening a window to his life is just another way of developing a special relationship with his listeners.

In those rare moments when Phillips isn’t near an “on-air” light or in front of a microphone, you can find him on a golf course trying to maintain his single-digit handicap. He loves travel, photography, St. Louis arts, sports, and time alone with family and friends.

Put simply: Phillips is still connecting!
