Rent to own Audio & Podcasts: Gary Romine, Show Me Rent To Own
Gary Romine is a past president of the Association of Progressive Rental Organizations and a current board member of the Missouri Rental Dealers Association.
Romine opened his first Show Me Rent-To-Own in 1988 and now runs nine stores in Missouri. His passion for politics led to positions as chief of staff for Missouri Senators Kevin Engler and Bill Alter. He most recently served as campaign manager/comptroller in Missouri Senator Michael Gibbons' recent bid for state attorney general. Listen as Romine discusses a current state bill that would affect the definition of "stolen" leased property and the importance of protecting the rent-to-own transaction on the federal level. A former school teacher, education runs in Romine's blood. That's why he's pleased with MRDA's decision to take its Heartland trade show in the direction of education and training via a three hour "vendor training" session on the final day of the show. The MRDA Board unanimously approved the measure at its meeting Wednesday. "We've always worked hard on the trade show part but with all the new electronics and new appliances, we need to be more technologically inclined on how to deal with these new products," Romine said. "Education and training are key. You've got to know what you're doing to be able to serve the customer effectively." | ||||

A New Rent-to-Own Experience by Neil Ferguson Here’s the lowdown on APRO’s 2012 Convention and Trade Show, July 24-26 in Memphis. The RTO industry’s big event will offer many valuable experiences, including insights on how to turn your stores into “experiences”–the good kind for consumers
Who Is Your Competition? by Bill Keese In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.
A Review of Online Customer Complaints by Ed Winn III While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
Rent-to-Own Families, Part VIII by Kristen Card Our series of family-run rent-to-own businesses continues with profiles of the Homeiers in Kansas and two Texas-based sets of kindred colleagues, the Spangles and the Weisblatts.
