Rent to own Audio & Podcasts: John White, VP AVB Appliances

John White is the vice president of the appliance division at AVB-Brand Source.

Though appliance sales for the industry as a whole are down nearly eight percent, White, a 20-year appliance industry veteran, notes Brand Source appliance sales are up 1.5 percent year-to-date.

Even in a down economy, White forecasts the appliance industry will continue to thrive due primarily to the fact a large portion of appliance purchases are made due to distress -- when an appliance goes out a new one must be purchased or rented.

Additionally, the replacement cycle for major appliances is contracting.

"Whereas, 15 years ago, a major appliance would last 15 or 20 years, today, its 6, 7 or 8 years tops," White said.
